Peruvian Silver Jewelry

There is so much Peruvian Silver jewelry to talk about and so many artists, I had to continue the page. If you landed on this page and would like to see the beginning,

click here for part 1 of handmade Peruvian jewelry. We were talking about all the types of handmade Peruvian jewelry and the artists who make it. Below is a continuing list of Peruvian jewelry artists.

Rosa Higa
"I was born on October 15, 1962 in Callao province. I did secretarial studies and when I graduated, I began to work in a jewelry shop. It was so exciting to be near so many beautiful things! After a while, I changed jobs, then I got married, and when I had my first child, I opted for staying at home. I've always enjoyed crafting things, even as a kid, and I have kept this beautiful art in my hands. I have to provide for my children, so I began to delve into different things. I wanted to try something more, so I enrolled in a jewelry making course. "Now I am fully dedicated to this art, which gives me a great sense of satisfaction. It is a wonderful feeling to see how you take your first step in preparing a piece of jewelry and eventually seeing it finished. I try to transmit a sense of harmony when I design a piece, whether it's through the contrast of gemstone colors, or through the silver alone. Creativity is what motivates me to design different things. Each new dawn brings a new idea. I am dedicated to my work so you may have a handmade Peruvian jewelry item of high quality that is filled with happiness all the same."
Rosa selects green and pink opals for a design that exudes refreshing energy. Done in .925 Sterling silver for jewelry making.

Gilda Vega
"I'm Gilda Maria Vega Defilippi and I was born in Lima. My work brings me a great deal of pleasure. I like the creativity of my pieces and I never spend a moment without looking for something to do. I love nature and I admire it very much; I especially like things related to Peru's culture and history. Through my designs, I transmit energy, art; my life is sharing with others these things that I feel. I've worked with handmade peruvian jewelry since 2002 although, paradoxically, I've always worked in jobs related to art. But today, this is what I give most to, every part of me setting free my space and my life in every work, in each small piece of silver. My jewelry is designed with geometric profiles and enclose the universal roots of form and meaning, echoes that reverberate from the earliest times of mankind. I especially like the Peruvian silver jewelry done with motifs from the Nazca culture. I want to grant each human story a portion of this mystery tied to our ancestors, the inspiration of the past in an atmosphere of forms and feelings.

Uncut Andean opal nestles amid silver vines in a design inspired by Peru's Amazon valley and the ethnic groups that live there. By Gilda Vega, this elegant Peruvian silver jewelry ring seems to emanate the energy of sky and water. Done in .925 Sterling silver for jewelry making.

Sandra and Lily Indacochea's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
As a mother and daughter team, they only have their family ties in common, they share a passion for Peruvian Silver jewelry. They are both self-taught. It all began as a game, when Sandra's little boy (Lily's grandson) was sent to fine psychomotor therapy. They both became immersed in the manual training until they realized that it had become more than a game they shared with the little boy. They realized that if they let their imagination run wild and allow their talents an expression, they could create original works of art. Sandra and Lily also recognized that in the process of creation they found peace and satisfaction. Lily recalls that when she was a child she developed an unexplainable fascination for all kinds of stones. One day, when she was playing with other kids in her parents' ranch in the Nazca valley she cut herself with an arrow. She kept the piece in her hand and treasured it for life, not knowing the stone's true name obsidian. Now, many of her designs mainly feature obsidian.
. "We named this first ring design 'Baby Rose' for two reasons. First, because it refers to the tender glow of pink opal and second, because of the softness in the ring's lines as they form petals around the magic gemstones," explain Peruvian designers Sandra and Lily. In the second design, Sandra and Lily transform pink opal into a fascinating ring that is cast of luminous silver. "The gem actually inspired the shape, that's why we gave it the Quechua name rumisunk'u, meaning 'heart of stone,'" explain the Peruvian designers. Both are done in .925 Sterling silver for jewelry making. The third handmade Peruvian Jewelry design shows the natural beauty of opals, with their unique veins of color and is the opal inspiration design of this necklace. Sandra and Lily present the Andean gem in the harmonious company of gleaming silver.

Carlos Gonzalez's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"Hi, I'm Carlos Enrique Gonzalez Elera and I was born in Lima on August 19, 1953. My father was my guide in the world of art. He was a jeweler and worked at his craft day and night. I was curious about it but didn't really give it much attention. As an adult, I'd go to the mountains to trade scales for grams of gold. And this is how I became enthused about jewelry. One day, I stayed watching my father and he suggested I pay close attention to what he was doing. In this way, I began to learn each detail of every piece. I never attended workshops or courses, as my father was my teacher, although he never gave me a formal class. I learned myself by observing, and never let a single detail get past me. These days I get up at night and sit quietly, letting new ideas come to mind, one after the other. I haven't stopped creating, I'm always searching. My friends always ask me how to make something and I'm not selfish with my skills. I love to teach what I know and pass on this knowledge.” Life transforms geometrical convention into surreal elegance with the design of this bracelet. He selects Andean opal for his design, which he expertly sets in a shiny silver rhombus and square. Peruvian Silver jewelry using sterling silver for jewelry making.

Alida Nunez's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"I wanted to make a piece that was fun and filled with energy when I came up with this design featuring bubbles in different sizes and colors," confides Alida Nunez. ”My full name is Alida Nunez Ferdmann, and I was born 15 October, 1976. I studied textile design, drawing and photography. My mother is Argentinean and my father is Peruvian, so I grew up within the fusion of two cultures. Both my parents love music and art, and they surrounded themselves with the things they were passionate about. My world turned around this. I guess that's why is in my blood. When I was studying in college I realized that textile design was completely different to what I was used to, so I welcomed the challenge and worked in this area for seven years after I graduated. One day I realized I needed to do something on my own, unrelated to textiles. I was watching a T.V. program about a jewelry designer and I became inspired. Since I already loved to design, I didn't even give it a second thought. I told myself it was now or never, so I enrolled in different jewelry courses and workshops to learn. She energizes her design (below) with the natural glow of amethyst, rose quartz, angelite and calcite. The gems are expertly set in sterling silver for jewelry making to create a formidable ring.

Sunita's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"Hi. My name is Sunita and I was born on August 17, 1968 in the city of Jaipur. Being brought up in a joint family was a great fun. We got to be around lots of cousins, aunts and uncles. Besides the fun, we were taught the values of family tradition, customs, love, respect and all the qualities needed for a complete person. I remember as a child, I fancied the intricate and sophisticated jewelry used by my mother and aunts, and I'd try it on myself. "Besides my interest in jewelry, I wanted to become a chartered accountant, however I could not complete my course. But this did not bother me. "After my marriage in 1990, I decided to revive my dream to design jewelry. My husband, who is already an exporter, inspired and motivated me. I took a course in jewelry designing -- I feel that it is more important in this field to be creative and artistic, rather than just knowing the subject. I have started to exhibit my designs on a very small scale. My jewelry is mostly traditional with some contemporary touches, which I am sure customers will find interesting. An amethyst rose blooms on this exquisite Peruvian Silver Jewelry cuff bracelet by Sunita. Fashioned of sterling silver for jewelry making, the realistic flower seems to grow on its leafy stem. The novel design is delicate and feminine.

Ana Vivian's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"I'm Ana Vivian Tintorer Rubli and I was born in Lima. I began crafting jewelry for myself but, when my friends saw it, they asked me to make jewelry for them too. There were times when I'd be wearing my designs and strangers asked me where I got them. Then they'd offer to buy them from me. In this way, I became more and more involved with this art. With each piece of malleable silver, I let my ideas flow and fuse them in each piece I craft. I give all my Peruvian Silver Jewelry designs a every fine finish so they are admirable when worn. From the time I was a child, I've always liked everything to do with art. I took workshops in ceramics, art glass and silver repousse. My motivation was to express myself through each art form and every detail of my work. I want to transmit a sense of beauty. I like to exhibit my designs. When I show my work and see that people like it, I feel a great satisfaction. I like to express a bit of myself in every piece of jewelry so that people appreciate the effort and love that went into them." Ana Vivian takes her inspiration from ancient Inca textile arts for a thoroughly modern bracelet. Weaving strands of pure silver, she creates a lacy setting for a cluster of amethyst blossoms. 1.000 rating silver Artisan Info: Her second handmade Peruvian silver jewelry design, Ana Vivian takes her inspiration from ancient Inca textile arts for a thoroughly modern bracelet. Igidio Daza Quispe's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"I'm Igidio Daza Quispe, born 1 September, 1950 in Cuzco Pisac. I grew up in the world of traditional arts and crafts since both my parents are artists. I've always liked it because art allows me to express all that my ancestors lived through. I fuse their techniques with modern ones to create original and contemporary pieces of Peruvian silver jewelry. My artistic formation is my family's legacy: my grandfather taught my dad, he taught me, and now I'm teaching my own children. By the time I was 18, I was working on my own, designing and creating my own collections. My art is a way of ensuring that our Peruvian roots are never lost. Even though my designs are contemporary, I always strive to incorporate an ethnic, Inca or colonial element. That way I feel I'm not losing my cultural heritage. I am motivated by a desire to ensure that I am able to transmit to our children the teachings I inherited from my father and grandfather. I hope they cultivate them and become better artists than I am. "I have been able to exhibit my Peruvian Silver Jewelry collections in Peru.” Flowers come together in a lavish bouquet with an antique finish in this Peruvian silver jewelry design. An exquisite symmetry characterizes Igidio Daza's designs. Inspired by Peru's elegant colonial art, he crafts ornate drop earrings, enhanced by amethyst pendants.

Pablo Lostaunau's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
Artisan Info: Born October 28, 1961, Pablo Lostaunau used to live in Lima during the school year, and return home to the Chilca Valley during holidays, where his parents farmed the land as well as worked in gift handicrafts. Of the two activities, Pablo was most interested in the original sculptures his father created with forged iron. He remembers how, when he was 11 years old, he had to take lessons in crafting as part of the school's curriculum. The classes were mainly about copper embossing and Lostaunau still recalls the exhilaration that came with the creative process. Soon it became a need to continuously create a variety of objects, so he decided to specialize in this art form and enrolled in the local center for arts and crafts, upon graduation from high school. Though he trained in ceramics and silversmith, it was the latter that appealed to him the most, interested in Peruvian silver jewelry. His quest for learning lead him to study for a degree in literature and then a post-graduate course took him to Argentina. Sinuous contours turn this way and that, darting through an ancient sea. The Huancor archeological site inspires Pablo Lostaunau as he shapes a fish in polished silver. The beautiful bracelet forms part of the artisan's "Cave Art" series.

Maria del Pilar Castillo's Peruvian Silver Jewelry
"I was born in Lima and majored in communications in college. One day I had a group project pending but something came up and the team broke up. It must have been destiny. I was really disappointed and looked around for something to keep me busy and, at the same time, I wanted to work independently. "As though it were a game, my passion for jewelry surfaced and, without noticing, I was creating the designs that came to mind. I didn't want to stop. I began taking courses to learn the details I needed and today I carry on my studies and my jewelry making at the same time. One leads me to the other, permitting me to create more and more. "My pieces are small works of art. I've been crafting them since 2004. For me, each design is something I can't explain. But when I'm finished, each one has been created with my own hands. "It's like a chain reaction from the time I sit down to design the piece. Everything begins with an idea. Then I let myself imagine the color, the shapes, etc. Although many times I've begun a piece with nothing previously planned. I just let my ideas flow.”
