Although I have written numerous blogs requesting information about finding underprivileged communities around the world who need help, I have received virtually no response. I would really like to organize a group of people who may be interested in my endeavor.

I believe idea is great, and certainly not novel, but a little different.

Rather than people in third world countries depending on hand-outs, there are many creative people who would love to learn a handicraft and have more control over their lives and income.

I know I'm not going to "feed the world", but I'd like to do my small part in helping out and this is the plan.

I am very interested in recruiting a group of volunteers who would like to teach people in these communities to make crafts that we can use and, in turn, bring these items to the US and sell for them.

Fair Trade is nice, but there are lots of complaints that things are overpriced and citiziens of the US are still feeling like they are giving out donations instead of purchasing at a fair price.

The items I have been finding that come directly from the people are very reasonably priced. This gives them money to support their families and I pass on the savings to my customers by selling at a reasonable price....not some overinflated price.

I'm trying to get the ball rolling, but need help. Is anyone interested in something like this? Contact me PLEASE!

Considering I mostly sell my handmade ethnic jewelry online, it was really interesting to show it in person. A craft fair at Westmoreland Mall, Greensburg, PA, really proved what a variety of people are interested in this sort of thing.

The Tibetan jewelry and hand carved topaz and jade from China seemed to make the greatest hits. Check them out in my store. Both lines are truly beautiful, unique and economically priced. It is so great to know that people can be helped from underprivileged communities in this way. I am begging people to email me and get involved in this venture.

I am looking for more small talented communities that would like to get their handicrafts (mostly jewelry) into the US. We love their stuff and just need to find more.

Above all else, I am interested in providing a fair price to the native and a fair price for the consumers. I realize it's a challenge to keep things all "fair and square", but it can be done with a lot of hard work and research.

Consumers were also extremely interested in the ammonites, large & natural, the new Egyptian enamal items, the hand carved African Earrings, and the Tagua Rainforest Ivory.

People are really looking forward to the new stock I am looking forward to getting such as PURE turquoise and amber items, and some of the Indian lac, amongst many,many other ideas I have. I need help! I'm getting overwhelmed here!! Email me please!

Don't forget I'm building an inventory of handmade ethnic jewelry from around the world. I am adding some new Tibetan jewelry to my store, so be sure to take a look within the next couple of weeks. Tibetans use a lot of turquoise and coral in their designs. Some of it actually reminds me of Native American Jewelry. I have taken a special interest in Tibet since they are having such a hard time financially, in their country. Fortunately, there are groups that are trying to help solve this problem by helping them sell their handicrafts. The surprising thing is that, when these groups visited Tibet, they went to the souvenir shops and you won't believe what they found. Not handicrafts made by the Tibetans (who are close to starving, by the way), but imported items made by manufacturers of Nepal. Furthermore, these items are of poor quality and poor design. This makes no sense when the Tibetans are making beautiful handicrafts and cannot find an outlet in which to sell them. We often find this in our country, as well. It's just easier to buy something manufactured than to scope out the artisan, but they exist, they have better items, and usually the price is comparable. Little did I know that the store site at Global Bejeweled.com was not officially open for business. I thought it was properly installed, but it was not. I apologize to everyone who tried to order items and didn't get through. As anyone who has read my website knows, I am not an expert at building websites and still learning.

More and more jewelers and jewelry artisans from around the world are in need of help. Small businesses are folding because of mass production and huge advertising campaigns. What seemed to be only a problem for underprivileged communities has reached epidemic proportions. Will handcrafted jewelry become a thing of the past as more and more quality workshops are closing down? Huge jewelry chains are racking in the "big bucks" and the country is not being provided with quality jewelry or gemstones. You cannot normally find good gemstones at a chain. You need a certified gemologist and skilled jeweler to evaluate and set your gemstones. Buying jewelry without the proper knowledge can cost you lots of money. Consult your local jeweler before you buy and remember....There are no "bargains" when buying a "quality" gemstone.

As I'm making some headway in finding ethnic tribal jewellery, I realize travel plans are in order and that is perfectly fine with me. For one thing, it is very difficult to find impoverished tribes who make jewelry via the internet. Firstly, I will probably have better luck visiting the countries in person. With a few contacts, I will be able to meet with the crafters in person. Secondly, I will be able to inspect the working conditions of the crafters. I certainly don't need any surprises down the road about people in sweat shops, working like slives in order to produce my jewelry. This program of mine is supposed to be about helping people and there's only one way to make sure it is about that. When I first thought of doing this, I envisioned people, in the sun, happily making their crafts! Sometimes I can be very naive. Taking trips should do the trick and certainly I love to travel! My only dilemma is where to go first!

When I first started my website, my major area of interest was in finding handmade ethnic jewelry indigenous of cultures from all around the world. Although I'm still finding beautiful handicrafts globally, and thrilled to be doing so, I have also found a need. There are so many impoverished communities out there who are making beautiful handicrafts that we would be thrilled to buy. The trouble is finding and reaching them. Imagine how much it would increase their standard of living if we could somehow assist in boosting their sales. And this is not to mention how empowered they will become by selling their own unique designs. I am making some progress in contacting these people, but I certainly could use some help. I'm looking for anyone who could assist in any way.
