Many times we don't even realize that Egypt is a part of Africa since the culture, etc. it so extremely different as some of the other African parts. The pendant(left) is Horus (Solar Horus) and a pendant that can actually be worn be men or women. Most of my jewelry is for women, but I have found some nice pieces of jewelry in Egypt for men. This pendant is a representation of Horus, the falcon God of the Egyptians, in his solar aspect. Horus was the protector God of the Egyptian Pharoah, and represented the King's divine authority. The common depiction of the American Eagle mascot is modeled on this image.
This beautiful Lotus bracelet is another example of jewelry that is exquisitely done in an Egyptian design. Again, it is hand crafted with enamel metal. UPDATE: I took this brand new Egyptian jewelry to a craft fair in May/2008. I was pleasantly surprised by its remarkable reception. People were very pleased to see quality of the Egyptian handiwork and many shared lots of information about it with me. I will therefore be adding more information about the symbols and meanings with me. They expressed what difficulty they come across in finding these unique designs. I absolutely loved talking to these knowledgable people who taught me so much more than I dreamed possible about each particular deisign. One day I'll be visiting Egypt and I'll be even more excited when I experience the culture of these small communities and talk to the actual artists, themselves. Please don't lose sight of what I am trying to accomplish with this website. If you haven't learned this already from some of my other pages, I am looking for an alternative way to bring money into some of these impoverished communities around. I may sound like a broken record, but it is so important to me and there's so much work involved in getting this feat accomplished. Soon I will be in South Africa, Peru and Egypt, to name a few and teaching them how to make jewelry to bring back to the US. They are excited about the realization of a way in which they can become self-sufficient instead of depending on hand-outs.
